“Is there anything I can do to make myself enlightened, fully alive?”
“AS LITTLE AS YOU CAN DO TO MAKE THE SUN RISE.”
“Then of what use are the mental and spirit disciplines we practice?
“TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT ASLEEP WHEN THE SUN BEGINS TO RISE.”
Living in the present is not as empty as it might appear to be or that we fear it may be. The discipline of learning to be present now and somewhere else later reveals the world to be rich and full, and those mental states rooted in a belief of scarcity are crushed by the enormity of joy and wonder. Everything we need is right here and the present moment has no competition; it doesn’t actually need to be judged in comparison to any other moment.
